Baking with the kids

Baking with kids is a fun and creative way to get children excited about food, but it can get messy.  It is a great way to spend quality time with your children, here are Shloer’s top tips to ensure it is as fun for you as it is the kids.

  • Baking with KidsMinimising the mess – To protect their clothes from the inevitable mess and minimise washing, why not make them feel like a proper little chef by making or buying them a wipe down apron
  • Decoration – Decorating cakes is the best part and a messy part of baking, to save ruining the whole packet of decorations with mucky fingers place them in small plastic bowls
  • Grease your dishes – Even if your baking trays are non stick use a little butter to grease them to ensure the cakes can be easily removed, this will also make cleaning much easier
  • Timing – It may sound obvious, but make sure you use an egg timer to tell you when the baking is ready, when there are little helpers around you can loose track of time and you don’t want to burn their creations!
  • Licking the bowl - This is always the best part of baking, so make sure you leave a little bit in the mixing bowl, for you and the children! N.B. Please check your cake mixture is safe to eat uncooked.
  • Matching – Shloer is great with sweet and savoury food,  Shloer is completely free from preservatives, artificial sweeteners, flavours and colours making it perfect for the whole family, why not see which delicious flavour they like best.
